    • But what is the name of the ancient city that's just above Pamukkale???

The hot springs are in that ancient ruin city.

          • Hierapolis hot springs were the centre of the ancient city, but the actual town was founded in secon century BC. It has suffered catastrophic earthquakes in both 17 and 60 AD. It slipped into obscurity during late byzantine period and when the Selcuks arrived 1100s it was abandoned despite the well known therapeutic properties of the springs. Excavations commenced 1957 until today as it is alongside the 'cotton castles' of Pamukkale

              • I've travelled a little, but I certainly don't recognise it. The architecture seems rather odd. IF (big if) it's in Europe, I'd put it at early 12th c., as a pure guess, but I don't think it is in Europe, perhaps more the Middle East. Shall I take a stab at a Crusader castle, somewhere in the E. Mediterranean countries?????

                • Yes it is in Europe but not in East Med. It was originally built around 1100-1300 but after a fire was rebuilt between 15th-17th century. A few famous people have stayed and were born here

                              • From the stone I'd guess it was Scottish - somewhere near Galloway? Don't recognise it though.
