RPG's for consoles are silly. I enjoy them, don't get me wrong. I eagerly run out and buy each new Final Fantasy title, but I'm not suffering under any illusions that I'm playing a non-linear game. Combat is limited, the game is 100% linear, it's really less of an RPG and more of an action game with limited movement and convoluted menus.
Console RPG's have gone in a completely different direction from PC RPG's. Not that there have been very many good PC RPG's of late, either.
But seriously, check out Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Planescape Torment... then compare to console RPG's. You'll see a VAST difference. The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!

Uhmm...you DID noticed that I'm talking about RPG with game master, other people, and stuff? True RPGs.
But as for console vs. pc RPGs...I don't know, neither of them is better, they are simply different...
And linear is not bad in itself, PC RPGs zealots make you believe that. The story is at least rock solid usually (and sometimes that's the thing you want)
But adding to this the fact that I don't like fantasy worlds in style of Baldurs Gate, I don't have much choice on PC

GM: "The ancient red dragon breathes it's cone attack on the party"
Me: "Pbbb, I got a... 40 on my reflex save, and with my improved evasion, I somehow find the cool spots in the flame and bask in it's comfortable warmth.
The wizard: "I roll a... umm... 1... Crap"
The rest of the party, laughing at the wizard: "Roll 4d6, drop the lowest!"

Originally posted by Kurt2 is just the wrong amount of screens for anything but an RPG where the 2nd screen is for inventory, maps, etc.
You just get the nice black bar right in the middle of your viewing area.
Though I can't really see how the average Joe would be able to pull off dual screens? Maybe with smaller LCD or CRT displays, or if they have money to burn projectors, butotherwise it would simply take up too much space in the living room (where most people use their consoles)
About the only people I could see using it would be those places you apy by the hour to play games. Or maybe have your game on the big screen with an smaller LCD near by for secondary map/inventory screen.“Inside every sane person there’s a madman struggling to get outâ€

I could definitely see a double screen with my upcoming 60" HD RPTV as the main action screen and my HD 24" WS LCD as the secondary info screen.<TABLE BGCOLOR=Red><TR><TD><Font-weight="+1"><font COLOR=Black>The world just changed, Sep. 11, 2001</font></Font-weight></TR></TD></TABLE>

it could be good for multiplayer games, where each player has their own screen, it could eliminate "screen looking" or more importantly, the people who constantly complain that you were "screen looking."Q9450 + TRUE, G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2, GTX 560, ASUS X48, 1TB WD Black, Windows 7 64-bit, LG M2762D-PM 27" + 17" LG 1752TX, Corsair HX620, Antec P182, Logitech G5 (Blue)
