GOOD ****ING LORD. Have you never played an ACTUAL RPG? You do realize that "Final Fantasy" is to an actual RPG as "pong" is to "Virtual Tennis 2005", right?

I'm sure you'll be able to buy NES, SNES, etc. game libraries on disc and load them into flash... like the complete Mario/Zelda/Metroid series on a single disc.

No, there's no irony. It's well known that Console "RPG's" are a complete joke in comparison to PC RPG's. The one notable exception to this rule is KOTOR, which is really a PC RPG for the XBox. I have my doubts that there will be any Bioware games for the XBox 360, since they are almost exclusively an x86 developer, and KOTOR was simply a port of the Neverwinter Nights engine to the XBox.

RPG's for consoles are silly. I enjoy them, don't get me wrong. I eagerly run out and buy each new Final Fantasy title, but I'm not suffering under any illusions that I'm playing a non-linear game. Combat is limited, the game is 100% linear, it's really less of an RPG and more of an action game with limited movement and convoluted menus.

Console RPG's have gone in a completely different direction from PC RPG's. Not that there have been very many good PC RPG's of late, either.

But seriously, check out Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Planescape Torment... then compare to console RPG's. You'll see a VAST difference.

Uhmm...you DID noticed that I'm talking about RPG with game master, other people, and stuff? True RPGs.

But as for console vs. pc RPGs...I don't know, neither of them is better, they are simply different...
And linear is not bad in itself, PC RPGs zealots make you believe that. The story is at least rock solid usually (and sometimes that's the thing you want)
But adding to this the fact that I don't like fantasy worlds in style of Baldurs Gate, I don't have much choice on PC

hum...there's only one kind of RPG. The rest is a simulation

You mean the type of game that goes like so?

GM: "The ancient red dragon breathes it's cone attack on the party"
Me: "Pbbb, I got a... 40 on my reflex save, and with my improved evasion, I somehow find the cool spots in the flame and bask in it's comfortable warmth.
The wizard: "I roll a... umm... 1... Crap"
The rest of the party, laughing at the wizard: "Roll 4d6, drop the lowest!"

Tell me more about this. I'll probably grab a PSP since I pretty much only play games while riding as a car passenger. I still haven't done much with DoomIII or URU on my 6800 GT oc platform. I've got a Sega Genesis console that I bought as much for visiting children as myself. I did always enjoy "Toejam and Earl" games on the Genesis. I might get tempted by the PS3 depending on the game selection and how much it exploits connectivity to a PSP.

The PS3 can do 2 HD outputs to two screens and run games at some resolution that I forget.

2 is just the wrong amount of screens for anything but an RPG where the 2nd screen is for inventory, maps, etc.

You just get the nice black bar right in the middle of your viewing area.

Oh I don't know...I wouldn't be surprised if Sony would come up with ultra (double) wide HDTV just for the PS3...

Not really. Racers and FPS games could have one screen with the action and a second with the map/course. RTS games could be the same (though I can't stand RTS on consoles, bleh). You could also show tech trees, detail maps with troop movements, etc. Assuming anyone would do it, of course.

Though I can't really see how the average Joe would be able to pull off dual screens? Maybe with smaller LCD or CRT displays, or if they have money to burn projectors, butotherwise it would simply take up too much space in the living room (where most people use their consoles)

About the only people I could see using it would be those places you apy by the hour to play games. Or maybe have your game on the big screen with an smaller LCD near by for secondary map/inventory screen.

I could definitely see a double screen with my upcoming 60" HD RPTV as the main action screen and my HD 24" WS LCD as the secondary info screen.

it could be good for multiplayer games, where each player has their own screen, it could eliminate "screen looking" or more importantly, the people who constantly complain that you were "screen looking."
