Clinton warns of rising anti-Islamic feeling

Former US president Bill Clinton warned of rising anti-Islamic prejudice, comparing it to historic anti-Semitism as he condemned the publishing of cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammed in a Danish newspaper.

"So now what are we going to do? ... Replace the anti-Semitic prejudice with anti-Islamic prejudice?" he said at an economic conference in the Qatari capital of Doha.

"In Europe, most of the struggles we've had in the past 50 years have been to fight prejudices against Jews, to fight against anti-Semitism," he said.

Clinton described as "appalling" the 12 cartoons published in a Danish newspaper in September depicting Prophet Mohammed and causing uproar in the Muslim world.

"None of us are totally free of stereotypes about people of different races, different ethnic groups, and different religions ... there was this appalling example in northern Europe, in Denmark ... these totally outrageous cartoons against Islam," he said.

The cartoons, including a portrayal of the prophet wearing a time-bomb-shaped turban, were reprinted in a Norwegian magazine in January, sparking uproar in the Muslim world where images of the prophet are considered blasphemous.

Clinton criticised the tendency to generalise negative news of Islamic militancy.

"Because people see headlines that they don't like (they will) apply that to a whole religion, a whole faith, a whole region and a whole people?" he asked.

A wide campaign to boycott Danish products has swept through Muslim countries as many governments and organisations have demanded an apology from the Danish government.

Clinton said the United States should continue to push for a Middle East settlement, in light of the stunning win by the radical Islamist movement Hamas in last week's Palestinian elections.

"It is important that ... we continue to be heavily involved in the resolution of the issues in the Middle East. (But) it depends in part on what Hamas says and does," he said.

"When we (US) are involved, fewer people (have) died," he said.

US President George W. Bush on Friday warned of cuts in US aid to the Palestinians if Hamas does not dissolve its armed wing and renounce threats against Israel.

Of course there were those among us back in the 90's who knew he was scum all along, but nobody would listen back then.

It was OK for him to perjure himself before a Federal Grand Jury.

It was OK for him to have oral sex in the Oval Office ("it's not really sex" has been an excuse ever since)

It was OK for him to allow the sale of ICBM MIRV technologies to the Chinese, even though that tech. was not supposed to be distributed.

It was OK for Clinton to take campaign donations from said Chinese and Moctar Riady, the Indonesian billionaire and CEO of the largely Chinese held Lippo Group mineral company, whose interest was getting Clinton to forbid mining low sulphur coal in the US. Thank you Bill as that bit of bribery cost the US almost $1 trillion.

It was OK for his wife to get unsavory investment information so they could make a $100,000 USD killing for a 3 day investment.

And lets not forget WhiteWater and his ties to Don Tyson when he was Gov. of Arkansas.

WhiteWater was a nice little real estate fraud controlled by the Clintons and friends of theirs named McDougal. With James and Susan McDougal they had quite a little scheme going until it blew up on 'em. When the investigation hit the fan Clinton was lucky that James McDougal was dying and Susan was a former mistress who would be willing to go to jail to protect Bill from prosecution.

Tyson was the owner of Tyson Meats and was doubling as a major cocaine dealer. Arkansas State Police officers testified that Clinton knew of this connection and that his buddy had a NADDIS number (under surveillance by the Feds), but did nothing about it. "Why?" has never been answered.

All this time his Clintonistas and most Europeans claimed we conservatives were just talking out of our hats. Well.....now you know it was because he really is total slimebucket full deserving of all the scorn thrown his way.

Why have the Democrats lost it? Because after all those years of defending Clinton though his actions were indefensible their perspective is totally whacked. Now they'll say and do anything, even it it makes them look like morons.

The recent hearings into Sam Alito's Supreme Court nomination is just the latest example. A week of the kind of lunacy on display every night on the news turned the US citizenry against them and into Alito's corner like a flash.

Today their defeat was total in that even many Democrats could not be convinced to indefinitely delay the vote, thereby killing his nomination. Oops.

That they don't have as much support as they think is obvious in the lack of money in their campaign coffers. They only have $5 million USD going into this Novembers congressional campaign vs. $35 million USD for the Republicans, and in both cases the vast majority of both parties donations are from individuals.

As biased as the MSM in America is, they still know what freedom of the press and free speech is. I hope they roast him for condemning a simple exercise of free speech and trying to use moral relativism to say that if we consider the nazis' use of the press to blatanty vilify Jews to be bad, we have to consider the Danish cartoons bad too.

They won't. The only media that'll take him on is Fox. NBC, CBS, ABC, the NY and LA Times, Newsweek and Time magzines are all in the Dems hip pocket. You wouldn't believe the crap that appears there

Eventually they'll get the message. To a degree they are already in that their circulation and viewer numbers are going down in favor of "non traditional media" (read internet etc.) and layoffs are getting intense....esp. in the print media. Problem for the "old media" is that by the time they DO get the message not many people will be listening.

BTW:

another thing killing the Democrats is their control by the far left wing of the party. These are groups like People for the American Way, the ACLU, far left bloggers etc. etc.....your basic lunatic fringe. Most people see these people as the wackos they are, but the Dems keep playing to that base because it's where their campaign donations are coming from.

A huge problem for the Dems is that now the assoiciation between the party itself and these people is firm in the publics mind, and this is not a good thing especially if you want Joe Sixpack to vote for you. For the last 25 years he hasn't, and there is no relief in sight.
