Stop the Madness! Why is everybody panicking? Just because some get what they perceive to be low scores in a benchmark. C'mon people! Is it really time to upgrade a P3-500 to a Coppermine 800?? Hmm yes why don't I spend $US700+ so I can get better scores in a benchmark...

Who would want a Coppermine now??
PIII bug stops PCs booting
A bug in the Intel's Pentium III Coppermine
processor can prevent PCs from booting up first time. Despite parroting Intel's official line that this is not a big deal, Dell has called a complete halt to shipping of its Optiplex GX110 corporate desktop machine.
"We've implemented a stop ship, which is a due diligence move to screen for the erratum," said Dell spokesman Ken Bissell, apparently with a straight face. Translated into English, this appalling drivel seems to mean that Dell has stopped shipping PCs while it searches for the bug.
"To my knowledge we've had no problems with systems we've shipped out with Coppermine," Bissell added. This backs up Intel's story that the bug only occurs in a handful of chips, and has yet to be reported by an end user. So far its only turned up in laboratory tests.
And why didn't somebody run those laboratory tests before launching the Coppermine, as opposed to afterwards? Your guess is as good as ours.

I tried my hand at overclocking my g400 16mb sh "vanilla" and got some positive results with 3dmark2000 and quake 2.
not oc'd :
3dmarks = 2250
cpu marks = 143
quake 2 = 60.6 fps
using MGA Tweak (pll clock = 290.25):
3dmarks = 2431
cpumarks = 143
quake 2 = 69.8 fps
this seems like an improvement to me
I tried to set the pll clock to 294 and got 70.3 fps in quake 2, but 3dmark crashed to the desktop during the high polygon test with 4 lights.

Well, I've finally downloaded the thing, now all I've got to do is get this very important Zip disk home and start running the damned thing! I'll post results tonight Australian time... tomorrow morning US time... no doubt I'll get lots of flames seeing how I'm not running XXXXXX hardware anymore.Look, I know you think the world of me, that's understandable, you're only human, but it's not nice to call somebody "Vain"!

Mathew, looks like we're really close. I'm anxious to see what a high-end Athlon does.
Any Athlon owners out there??

Actually, Punchdog, what we really need is someone who has GeForce and publishes his score with the similar setup. Because the MadOnion may scale the score so there will be a higher headroom for future cards. That's should explain why our scores are low, compare to using 3DMarks99MAX
Cheers,

I started feeling that I do need a new processor, after running the new 3DMarks2000 yesterday..........I want the T&L in my G400!

OK. Cause ahm a lazy bastard here's a copy paste. The system tests are as follows: G400 non max, non OC with dualhead enabled, G400 non max OC to 146/194 dualhead enabled, then finally, G400 non max, no OC with dualhead totally disabled. Tried doing OC'd without dualhead and crashed so i was lazy and said screw ithere's a blatantly lazy copy paste of the results.

Genom,
Hate to tell you this but your results must be from using 5.307 or earlier drives, the non multitexturing fillrate should be the same as the multitexturing fillrate, not 5 times as high, obviously you are testing with the bug present.

Looks like having a Pentium III and high mhz are the key to this benchmark.

I can say only one thing about that demo: Whow, it looks great. Now I'm really sure that my next card will have T&L. So Matrox, make us a T&L card. ;-)
But seriously, T&L on that fountain looks really cool. Sorry for 3dfx, but I rather have a card with T&L without antialiasing, than a card without T&L, but with antialiasing (for a unreasonable price ;-).

You wanted more GeForce results, so here they are. Just run it 5 minutes ago, and I'm happy.

All results were obtained with drivers set to max image quality, on a 1280x1024x32bit desktop with the GeForce clocked to 135 core and 183 memory. Triple buffered in all cases, except 1600x1200 which was only Double Buffered due to insufficient memory.
----- D3D Hardware T&L Mode -----
1024x768x16bitx16bitZ = 4042 3D Marks/317 CPU 3D Marks
1024x768x32bitx24bitZ = 2903 3D Marks
1280x1024x32bitx24bitZ = 1864 3D Marks
1600x1200x32bitx24bitZ = 1237 3D Marks
----- PIII Enhanced Mode -----
1024x768x16bitx16bitZ = 3452 3D Marks
Seems my humble PIII ain't quite as strong as that Athlon 700 of Manoj's.
