Yes, but smoking kills you, buying a Parhelia will not.

unless of course you throw yourself of the roof when it doesnt work

    • I am affected by the problems presented with the Parhelia. Even though i do not own one, i can still be affected, and have an opinion.

I would have bought one, had it not had so many problems....

Analogous: Something which is similar in style or type, but not in function. (summat like that)
i.e. My statement was similar to the gentlemans post on P and those who own it, in the sense that it was false.

Well, euhm... I don't own a Parhelia, but intend to upgrade my system any time now. The banding issue sort of put me of buying a Parhelia, but I don't seem to find any alternative (I'd use it for photo-editing, software-devellopment, webdesing, occasional gaming and dvd-playback (on TV)).
Allthough I'm not a hardcore gamer, I like to be able to play the occasional game (don't we all) ? And for that, I don't care about fps that blows away everybody, just a smooth enough, nicely rendered scene suffices for me. But if the banding is persistent, it sort of puts me off of buying a Parhelia. If I were to know right now that a Parhelia I buy would not exhibit the banding, I'd just go out and buy one. I might even go out and buy one even if the problem persists (but then I'd like to know that no "revised" version would come out a few weeks later). Lets face it: the card is not cheap enough to be used for a short amount of time, esp. when knowing a replacement might be imminent.

        Just my opinion...

No, smoking doesn't kill. Only some people are highly suceptable to complications arising out of it's impact on the body. but banding is Coyete ugly, so bad that in some cases you would rather chew your arm off rather than to wake her up!

                    • The banding issue isn't as bad as some NON-Parhelia owners would leave you believe IMHO

                        • From what i understand, the banding is a problem. People have also mentioned 'purple spots' due to bad memory?
The core speeds, well, 3MHz isn't gonna make up for much anyway....

Think of it as a car: Would u buy a car, knowing that it had a few engine problems?
Hey, my cars great, brand new. You get in and notice the speedo doesn't work. The company replies " thats normal..." What do you do?
You have bought a product that is faulty. Point.
Faulty products are either repaired, replaced or refunded. Point.
                          (Edit: If u want to...)
Every single one should still be under guarantee....

No, but it can probably damage your eyes. I have encountered several eye doctors (of both the optometrist and the opthamologist types...) that have stated that continual computer use does put a strain on your eyes. Many people see this when using low refresh rates. Higher refresh rates make it easier on the eyes. That being said, the fact that i get headaches from using Parhelia's and running 3d apps gives me a pretty damn good idea that its causing eye strain.

That being said, i'm not an eye doctor so i can't really verify any of this. pure conjecture.

3dfx - the banding issue was pretty damn bad across both monitors i was using... certainly noticable, especially on the second monitor because it was usually running apps with white backgrounds...
